We strongly believe that the next COD game will be Call of Duty Ghosts 2. There are a number of reasons that make us think this and we’ll be talking about them below.
Mark Rubin at Infinity Ward
Mark Rubin was the executive producer at Infinity Ward till early 2015 and he mentioned a comment about the original Call of Duty Ghosts game that suggested that the development studio was very dedicated to their new story arc within the COD universe.
Mark said, “Everyone was expecting us to make Modern Warfare 4, which would have been the safe thing to do. But we’re not resting on our laurels. We saw the console transition as the perfect opportunity to start a new chapter for Call of Duty. So we’re building a new sub-brand, a new engine, and a lot of new ideas and experiences for our players. We can’t wait to share them with our community.”
Talking about story, the original COD Ghosts campaign ended on a cliffhanger. This suggests that the Infinity Ward guys are definitely not finished with Ghosts just yet. We couldn’t see why the Infinity Ward team would drop their story after leaving it on such a dramatic ending. This would be one of the biggest single player campaign disappointments in history.
Existing Content and Engine
A whole new engine was built for Ghosts! Content was built from the ground up and a whole story was created from scratch. How could they throw that away? The wave based survival game mode Extinction was made from scratch too and it offered a player versus alien experience that Infinity Ward definitely wouldn’t want to throw in the trash.
It’s Infinity Ward
Because 2016’s Call of Duty is made by Infinity Ward, we can’t see it being anything other than one of Infinity Ward’s own creations. Modern Warfare seems like it’s all finished up and with the recent approach towards futuristic themed content, Ghosts would be the most fitting title. The original had a scene in outer space and Extinction mode had aliens!
